Supervision

Are you looking for a collaborative and supportive approach to developing both yourself and your practice?

The supervision of counselling and psychotherapy is a joint endeavour between supervisor and supervisee, with "the general goal that one person, the supervisor, meets with another, the supervisee, in an effort to make the latter more effective in helping people" (Hess, 1982).

My own experience of supervision has been critical to my development as a therapist. It is through regular supervision that I have gained support and been able to continually learn and grow as a reflective practitioner whilst learning new theories and how to apply these to practice

I trained as a clinical supervisor and completed the Diploma in Supervision at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute where I now also work as a skills facilitator. I am able to offer supervision to any qualified therapists, trainee therapists or those working professionally using therapeutic competencies

How I work

My philosophy and approach as an integrative relational therapist also informs my approach as a supervisor. The relationship between supervisor and supervisee needs to be not only educational, supportive, and facilitative but a key component is the need for it to be relational. My supervision philosophy works from the relational developmental approach using Hawkins & Shohet's 7 eyed model and Gilbert & Evans (2000) "integrative relational model of supervision" which perceives the supervisory relationship as the container for change.

I will work with you at your stage of development to develop your skills through reflection and exploration of your work with clients. This can also be educational in terms of the application of theory to practice and practice to theory, introducing new theories and increasing the understanding of theories that have already been learnt.

We will work in a "Supportive" way responding to how you are affected by your clients and enhancing your awareness of how this affects you. Helping to identify signs of shame, tiredness, overwhelm, compassion fatigue or vicarious trauma, vulnerabilities all therapists are susceptible to. Supervision can offer precious moments to be witnessed and held and identifying these enables you to take action to rebalance workload and seek support towards rebuilding resilience.
